Bob Conn

I became interested in photography in 1973 while working part-time in a photography department of a department store in Columbus Ohio. Cameras used film and exposure was all done manually. My first camera was a Minolta 35 mm single lens reflex with a 50mm f1.4 lens. I shot a lot of black and white photos and some color transparencies (slides). It wasn't until I added a darkroom that I became pretty serious about the art of photography.
I started thinking about a career in photography but it just wasn't meant to happen.  I married in 1978 and had three children which put a hold on my love of photography (other than the usual family photos).  In 2007 I bought my first DSLR.  It was a Canon XSI Crop Frame camera with a stock lens.  I was really interested to see how a digital SLR camera would compare to a film SLR camera that I used years ago so I shot my daughter’s college graduation with both cameras and was surprised at how good the results were for the DSLR.  Needless to say, I was once again hooked.  My love of photography was reborn so I set out on a journey to learn as much as I could about using a DSLR.  I soon discovered that the best way to process these digital images was with two photography APPs; Lightroom and Photoshop.
Most of my photos today are taken during my travels around the United States.  I really like all types of Nature Photography including Landscapes, Wildlife, and Macro.  I’ve photographed several National Parks but some of my favorite photos have been taken around Charleston South Carolina and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Another area that interests me is Night Sky photography.  However, the area in which I live has too much light pollution to make this possible.  The only opportunities for Night Sky photography occur when I travel to areas with little or no light pollution.
Regardless of the type of photography I explore, my digital gear has changed dramatically since 2007.  Follow this link for a full list of My Gear.
